Classes Fall 2015

These are just four classes that I took while abroad in Prague. They were recommended to me by upperclassmen and I would also recommend them to anyone studying abroad.

Business Classes: There are only two available Stern classes you can take abroad and each only has one respective teacher.

1. Introduction to Marketing (Huntova): Research Assignment 15%, Midterm Exam 25%, Marketing Plan 20%, Final exam 30%, Active Participation/Class Preparation 10%.

Very nice professor who is definitely willing to meet with you during class breaks and after class to improve on your Marketing Plan or help you understand the weekly discussions. Class discussions are not very engaging and much of what you learn is in the readers, but she is still willing to help out if you need it.

2. Org Comm (Klvana): Grading is based on team presentations and business documents.

Klvana is a very specific grader- he is looking for constant improvement in your presenting skills and is extremely conscious when grading business memos. Any typos result in small grade drops, and he cares more about how you present rather than the content that you are presenting. However, he is also willing to help you improve and definitely pushes you to improve your speaking skills.

3. Religion, Culture, Politics in Central Europe (Mucha): Class Participation (20%), Response Paper (15%), Oral Presentation (20%), Midterm (20%), Final Paper (25%)

Mucha is one of the nicest, if not the nicest professor you will ever have in college. The class is primarily culture and religion in Central Europe and a little of how those two factors affect politics. The class is not too difficult and you are able to elaborate more on what you learned in high school about everything from the classical era to the post-modern era.

4. Modern Dissent (Urban): ???

This has probably been the most abstract class of my life. Professor Urban went through the communist regime in Prague and has a lot of stories and his own opinions to tell the class. The majority of the class is him telling these stories. He does not have a recent syllabus uploaded and there are no tests in the class. Urban is more interested in teaching than he is with assigning grades.
