Hi USWIB! I’m Sadhana, a study abroad liaison for NYU London. I am a sophomore studying Management. As of this week, I have officially been here for a month. I definitely feel settled and comfortable in my new home, and I’ve loved the past few weeks here—it’s flying by. Luckily, the weather has been pretty mild and we haven’t had much rain..not sure how long that will last though.

A bit about my experience so far:
I live in Urbanest: it’s a suite of 8 girls, each of us have our own single room and bathroom. The facilities are new and equipped with pretty much everything you need. The location in Granary Square is beautiful, it sits right on the canal. It is also a dorm for University College of London and the London School of Economics and it’s been awesome getting to meet university students based here in London.

I am taking four classes. Classes only meet once a week but each class is 3 hours long (with a 20 min break), which definitely required a little getting used to. But after a few weeks, I’ve adjusted and this schedule means more time to explore.

My Favorite Parts of London:
Food: I love food (a lot). Although the British food is stereotypically not the best, the city is home to some of the greatest restaurants and you can find pretty much every cuisine imaginable.

Markets: So many to visit, so little time. The markets in London have great food, art, often music and it’s a great way to spend free time on a weekend with friends.

Friends: NYU London is a much smaller community than the New York campus, making friends is a lot easier. Everyone is really outgoing and ready to hang out with new people. I’m a really social person so I love this part of Study Abroad.

City: I love the city itself. It’s a lot like New York, there’s so much to do and you’re never going to be bored. It’s also similar in that it’s very developed, everybody speaks English, and you can pretty much find anything you need without going too far. Getting around is really easy, plus, the tube is 100x better than the NYC subway system. Walking through London is different than New York, there are no skyscrapers, instead every street is filled with beautiful architecture, and there’s a lot of greenery as opposed to the concrete jungle.

Different from New York: London is different in three major ways: it’s a little more expensive, everything closes earlier, and different shows on Netflix.

Traveling: I love traveling. Skyscanner and Airbnb are my best friends for booking trips within budget. A few weeks ago I spent my birthday weekend in Paris which was incredible.

I’m excited for the trips I have planned for the next few weeks to explore the rest of Europe and the UK. One great element of studying in London in particular is you can see so many incredible parts of Great Britain just by taking day trips out of the city. This weekend I’m headed to Brighton :).

Hoping all the USWIB girls in New York and in all the other study abroad locations are having a great semester!
