Ciao USWIB!

My name is Tiffany and I’m a sophomore studying Finance and (probably) minoring in Politics. This semester, I’m studying abroad at NYU Florence! I chose to study in Florence because I visited the city briefly four years ago, and just fell in love. From the architecture to the food, I was just captivated. So, this was my chance to come back and really get to know the city.

Florence is a truly beautiful Renaissance city with many things to offer. It is extremely walkable, making it easy to explore the city. After exploring on my own, I’ve found a few things I like to do when I have free time, so I’ll be sharing with y’all my some of my favorite things to do and favorite places to eat in Florence.

To start off, one of my favorite places in Florence is Piazzale Michelangelo. It has an incredible view of Florence from the other side of the Arno River. You can get to the piazzale by walking up the stairs or you can take the bus. If you do decide not to walk up, I definitely recommend walking down. There are beautiful gardens to either side of the piazzale, called Giardino delle Rose and Giardino dell'Iris. I was only able to see the rose garden (Giardino delle Rose), which was beautiful, and it definitely made the trip going down much more scenic.

Another place with sweeping views of Florence, and even some of its outskirts, is Fiesole. Although Fiesole is a totally different town, this town is just north of Florence and is only a short bus ride up the hill (about 20 minutes). You’ll be dropped in a cute little town with some cute stores and some great hikes around it. After all of this walking around, it’s always nice to have a little reward and to go get a bite to eat!

One of my go-to places is All’Antico Vinaio. They are a panini shop with five incredible sandwiches that get made right in front of you when you order. These paninis are so good that the company has 3 different store fronts right next to each other to handle the crowds. Either way, you’ll probably still have to wait in one of the three lines for about 15 minutes, or longer during mealtimes, because it gets THAT busy. These paninis are delicious, and they give you a taste of Tuscany for only €5. Also, they are so big that I usually get one for lunch and then have to save the rest for later.

What is a meal in Italy without finishing it off with some gelato!? A favorite gelato place of mine is La Strega Nocciola. If you love pistachios, this is the place for you. I’ve tried so many pistachio flavors at different gelaterias (every time I go to a gelateria, which is very often, I get pistachio), but this is definitely one of the best I’ve had in Florence. Luckily, this place is near my apartment, so I can get some whenever I want.

So, these are just some of the things I like doing when I have some free time, and are obviously not encompassing of what Florence has to offer. There is definitely so much more to Florence, such as museums, monuments, and shopping areas, so this is just a slither of what you can do in the city.

That is all for now. A dopo!
Tiffany
