Fun London Activities to Experience the Beauty of London’s Arts and Culture
Studying abroad in London has been such an incredible experience, and I’ve loved getting to explore the city’s art, food, music, and culture. These are a few of my favorite activities that helped me feel more connected to the city during my time here.
1. See a Ballet at the Royal Opera House
Seeing a Ballet is a really fun way to experience London’s art and music scene. The Royal Opera House is decorated beautifully, and you get to watch insanely talented dancers perform a story through movement and music. Regardless of your ballet knowledge, it is a lovely time, especially because the setting and live orchestra keep you fully immersed. I had the opportunity to see The Nutcracker, which was amazing, just make sure you buy tickets in advance!
2. Try Local Food Spots
Trying local food is one of the best ways to explore London’s culture. You can find everything from street food, to cozy cafes, to Michelin Star restaurants, all super delicious options. Many of London’s cuisines are top tier, so I would get out of your comfort zone and start exploring! I recommend looking at the top places on Beli and asking locals for their recommendations. Eating like a local makes the experience feel more authentic and fun.
3. Marylabone Farmer’s Market
Going to the Marylabone Farmer’s Market was one of my favorite activities I’ve done in London. It is a great way to explore a new neighborhood and check out all the stands. You’ll see fresh food, bouquets of flowers, and lots of vendors selling homemade products. If you’re looking for a more chill activity, with no pressure or costs, I definitely suggest checking it out!
4. Visit the Local Museums
London’s museums are a great way to explore London’s history and art. You can walk through world-famous collections and see some really cool exhibits. Most of the museums are free, which makes it really easy to make a spontaneous visit. I recommend checking out the British Museum, National Gallery, and the Design Museum!
5. See a Local Show
Seeing a local show in London is a fun way to experience the city’s energy. I love live music, so I enjoyed going to different venues and hearing various artists. The vibe of the audience is also unique to each show, so it’s fun to talk to different people and hear their stories as well. The shows are usually pretty affordable, especially with a student discount, so you definitely need to check out ones in your area!
